Maritime fun in Rye

Steve and his two children take a trip down to Rye to have a look at the boats.

What did you do on your trip?

I took my two sons on a trip down to Rye to have a look at the boats at the Strand Quay, then we popped into the Heritage Centre for some advice, they gave us a few leaflets one of which showed the Rye Antiques Trail. I never knew of a place with so many antiques in such a small area. We popped into a couple of the shops on the Strand Quay and the kids loved looking at all the bits and pieces and the prices weren't too high either. We then grabbed some fish and chips at the Kettle of Fish and sat on the benches at the Strand Quay while we ate. After that we went for a wander in the town finishing up at the Ypres Tower where we sat down in the Gun Garden and took in the spectacular view out to sea. After that we headed back to the Strand where we had parked and then off home.

What time of year did you go?

Summertime

What did you like best about it, did everything go to plan? Especially include anything that was really memorable or quirky?

We loved the fact that Rye was so different to what you normally experience, the place almost seems untouched by time and still retains it's character. It's like taking a step back into the past.

What could have been improved or done differently? Did anything go wrong or was not as you'd expected?

No - nothing went wrong it was a great day, which tired the kids out - who slept all the way home in the car. I would definitely recommend a visit to friends.
