Walking

Rye and the surrounding area is a popular destination for walkers and ramblers. There are a variety of walking routes and trails in and around Rye.
The Royal Military Canal Path
The Royal Military Canal Path runs for 28 miles along the length of the Royal Military Canal from Seabrook, Kent to Cliff End in East Sussex. There are some very rural sections where you can experience the true spirit of the Romney Marsh and also in contrast the canal runs through some towns and villages. There is also a 5 mile stretch that has been surfaced from Seabrook to West Hythe Dam so it is suitable for disabled people.
There are many public footpaths that link into the Royal Military Canal Path and you can make the walks shorter or longer as you wish. The Romney Marsh Countryside Project has produced a walks pack to enable you do this and you can obtain a pack visit http://www.rmcp.co.uk/
Rye Nature Reserve short walks
There are three short walks of varying length that can be taken around the nature Reserve at Rye Harbour village. The walks take in scenery and nature that you can experience at the reserve, including the birdwatching huts and historical places such as the Martello Tower.
Other walks
East Sussex County Council also produce additional walk leaflets. Visit http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/ for more information.
